How Looking At The World Through Rose Colored Glasses Can Change Your Life

How-Looking-At-The-World-Through-Rose-Colored-Glasses-Can-Change-Your-Life

Did you ever wake up in the morning and everything seemed black, gray, and sad? It was pouring rain and your head was throbbing. On the way out to work, you spilled your coffee on your scrubs you had prepared for a change and perfectly ironed the night before. You got stuck in a massive traffic jam, and your boss was quite upset at the time you showed up to work… It was one of those mornings.

Don’t let this all affect your mood! Remember the small trick of digging into your pocket, pulling out your rose-tinted glasses, putting them on, and suddenly the world will be sunny, your brain will be clear, and your stain on your shirt will not matter. Can this really be?

What are Rose-Tinted Glasses?

Rose-tinted glasses are not a physical tangible thing; rather, they are a symbol of a state of mind. It is a change in the outlook of how you view the world. You always have the power to view things in two ways; positive or negative. Rose tinted glasses means only looking at the positive side to things.

How Do They Work?

The psychological path of your brain is one of the strongest paths in a human. It can even dominate physical feelings! So all you have to do it put yourself into this positive thinking mode. Which literally means looking at every situation and finding the positive. Once your brain views and thinks of the positive, you will start believing the positivity of your situation, and then feel positive – which will turn your day from black to yellow.

Note: You can still feel pain and sadness wearing rose-colored glasses, but it will be from a different perspective, and you won’t feel that you’re suffering as much. Look at this simple math:

Pain + rose colored glasses = Less pain

Pain – rose colored glasses = More Pain, more stress, more anxiety, etc.

Putting This Into Practice

Let us start with the following scenario:

You woke up and everything seems black and dreary. How can you make this day more positive?

How about realizing it’s just a few clouds blocking the sunshine. Imagine – beyond the clouds is a whole beautiful sky that you will be able to view as soon as the clouds pass! Doesn’t that make the gray morning sky better?

How do you turn a rainy day awesome, you ask? Think positive. What will the world be without rain? If you go down that road you will realize quite fast how you want it to pour!

Coffee spills are no big deal once you put on the glasses! Think about the blessings of being able to hold and drink a coffee. There are many people out there who lost their arms and are on feeding tubes!

Did the boss yell at you? Think “this too shall pass” while your boss lets out all his steam. Keep quiet and keep on repeating in your mind that “this will pass…this will pass.” It will calm you down as he lets out his frustration on you. Later that day, once he calmed down, you can explain to your boss the reason you came late. I have no doubt that he will assure you it was ok you came late and understand you.

An Exercise of How to Acquire Rose Colored Glasses:

Since this is a mindset, you will have to practice installing this “program” into your brain.

Take paper and divide it into two.  On the left side write down 10 “bad” things that happened to you in the past week. On the left side think of how you can look at the “bad” in a positive light. Do this often at first. You will see that the first time will be tough. You will have to use your imagination, or you might even need an unbiased outsider to help you find the positive – but I can assure you that as time goes on, things will get simpler.

I would suggest you wear a “be positive” reminder for the beginning. Put on a pink bracelet or watch to serve as a cue to start being positive.  You can also put some motivational sticky notes near your work desk, bed, and on the fridge.

To conclude, changing a mindset is tough work, but doing so will change your life from dark black and gray to bright pink and yellow! And always remember: Whether you think you can or you think you can’t; either way, you will be right!

Words Of Encouragement For Depression

Words Of Encouragement For Depression

Depression is a state of mind and a feeling in the body that we find it hard to bear. Depression damages our life a lot. We feel like everything that we do and everything that exists in the word is useless. We feel powerless most of the time. I know a lot about depression because when I was 25 years old (now I am 36) I was diagnosed with it. As I am the founder of this website Positive Words Research much of the work I do for this blog was motivated by me making efforts to win over depression.

It is not easy at all to get rid of depression. This is the hard truth. But you can win over it. I did. I learned a lot of techniques to fight and win over depression. I will share with you five words of encouragement for depression. All the things that I am sharing with you are real actions that I implemented in my life.

Words Of Encouragement For Depression

1. You Have Many Reasons To Be Grateful About Yourself

If you are struggling with depression I know this is hard to believe. Just believe me that one of the secrets of winning over depression, that I was blessed enough to find it, is gratitude. Especially gratitude about myself. I started writing small lists of gratitude for myself and I still do this. Practice gratitude from time to time is a practice that I will do all my life. Sometimes I compute the days, weeks, months since I am born and I name this period as “time since I exist on Earth”. Then I say that I am joyfully grateful or sincerely grateful for all these days, weeks and months.

2. You Have The Power To Play

Including playfulness in my life was one of my top goals in getting rid of depression. Again, it is hard to be consistent in making actions that feel like play when you are in a state where everything seems so hard and serious.

I included playfulness into my life in two ways: working on my new philosophy of life and making actions that are playful. In my new philosophy of life I included sentences like: “Sometimes life doesn’t need to be taken so seriously.” or “Dancing is a shortcut to happiness”. As actions, I searched for actions that are easy and doable so that it can help me be consistent. I developed a practice where “almost” every morning and evening I stretch my body. I do this by doing simple exercises that I learned from my sports teacher when I was in school. Nothing special, nothing extravagant. I also have a practice of dancing in my room, alone, with headsets, keeping my phone in my right hand, looking at me in the mirror. It makes me see myself as being alive.

3. You Are Loved

Working on me feeling loved was a challenge. And it still is. I don’t know why but we humans feel that we are not so loved, we don’t matter so much, we are not so important. Is that “so” that created so many depressive thoughts in my mind. And I realized that we are. We are so loved, we matter so much, we are so important.

One of the tools I use to feel loved is actually a visualization that I am doing. I am sharing this with you in the hope that you feel the love and not drama. I noticed that some people feel drama when I tell them this visualization. Here it goes.

Visualizing Of A Simple Meditation To Feel Loved

I see my heart. I see the hearts of all living humans. I notice that my heart beats at the same time as 7.7 billion other people. We are together now on a planet that is spinning in a huge universe. For 36 years this planet is holding me alive, even if I am such a sensitive being. I actually am one of the 7.7 billion people that are alive now. I am kept safe even if the Earth is pressured every second by physical forces in the universe above my power (life gravitational force etc.). I am actually in a safe place. This safe place was created for me and others because we are loved. I am loved. We are all loved.

4. You Are Enough

I must admit that I still struggle with this one. It is not that I do not feel enough, it is that I do not do enough. And actually, it is the belief that I did not do enough and I can not turn back time to do more, therefore, all is hopeless and without exit. But, I developed a trick to convince myself that I indeed was and did enough.

I Say To Myself A Little I am Enough Story

You are enough. You know why? Because you did good things that you will never know about. You do small things that matter. How come? What did I do? Well, at least once in your life you helped someone that dropped something by picking it up. Maybe that person had a bad day and you showed him that kindness still exists in the word. He went home and was a little kinder with his kids. His kids felt a little more loved. Or were not beaten that day. Kidding, just to make you smile. You are enough. You did enough, so enough that you will never know.

5. You Are Capable Of Being Kind To Yourself

I could name better this paragraph as You Are Allowed To Be Kind To Yourself. I don’t know if you resonate with me but when I suffered from depression I felt like I am not allowed to be kind with myself. I needed the approval of someone or something for me to be kind to myself. Especially kind in my thoughts. I had so many thoughts angry, hateful, damaging to myself. Hard, heavy, negative, so serious thoughts. And I remember I did not think in terms of You can choose kind thoughts just because they feel better. You are allowed to think thoughts that feel light and good.

During my depression period I thought I need, it is mandatory, it is an obligation, to think “any” thought, even if it is such a disempowering thought. “Disempowering” is politely said. Because I had heavy thoughts like “so many people are trapped in the small boxes that they call apartments in things that they call buildings and they say they are happy? How can you be happy when you live like a sheep in a box. We are all trapped without any way out except death”.

I learned that we are blessed to live a human life. And anyway it is only for 80,100,120 years, not that much, why “escape” sooner. Lol.

Of course, I can joke now with myself with the hardest and most negative thoughts of all, because I am in another state of mind, a happier one. But the transition took a lot of work. I did psychotherapy for many years, with a good psychotherapist in my country that helped me a lot and the fact that I did the best list of positive words in the world made a huge difference. I remember that while I was doing this list of positive words I thought: I am doing this list as a trace to happiness, to find my way back to the light if I ever get lost in the dark again.

I realized at one point, a few years ago, that we people are not scared of the dark. What we are scared of is not knowing a simple effective tool to turn on the light. Think about it. Every human needs dark to sleep. We love dark when we sleep. We are not afraid of being in a dark place. But we could feel afraid in the dark if we do not know where the electricity switch for the light is, or if we know that there is no electricity in the house. But even then we are still ok with the dark because we know that the sunlight will come. The consistency of the morning light eliminates the fear of the dark and you sleep peacefully.

The secret is for you to know what works for you. Is different for every person. What “sunlight” can you implement in your life to always have your morning light come over you? What is your switch to turn on the light? I would actually go for more switches in your house (your mind, body, soul). When you have light switches in your life you will not be afraid of depression anymore (the dark) because you will always find your way back from it. And at that moment, depression will lose the power it has over you.

Staying Positive Despite a Chronic or Terminal Condition

Staying Positive Despite a Chronic or Terminal Condition

When faced with terminal or chronic conditions, the last thing you need is someone telling you to stay positive and to live in the moment. It can seem like a total slap in the face. However, working to find peace within yourself can be the thing that helps get you through those exceptionally hard times.

Oftentimes, it’s the strength and positivity we discover inside of ourselves that can help make us feel better and able to push forward. Of course, it’s also important to remember that you’re never alone in this fight and there will always be a support system for you. Having bad days is completely okay and understandable.

On those days — sometimes weeks — when you find yourself slipping into a dark, dejected place, having the right people and tools on your side can give you the strength you need to climb back out.

Staying Positive Despite a Chronic or Terminal Condition

Finding Your Tribe

At first, support groups can certainly seem intimidating to join. When dealing with chronic or terminal issues, however, it’s hard trying to find ways to connect with people who don’t deal with the same obstacles and worries as you. Support groups can often help bridge that gap while also providing you with tools and advice to work through your difficult days.

As experts at Augusta Oncology aptly put it, “One of the most difficult aspects of cancer or any disease is that no one understands what you’re going through. Sure they say they understand, they sympathize with you, but how can they know? A cancer support group is a unique place because it is made of people who know what you’re feeling because they’ve been there … They will understand your fears, worries, concerns, and joys … ” Staying positive can be made a lot easier if you have the right group to vent frustrations and problems too, especially a group who truly understands what you’re going through.

Furthermore, with certain chronic conditions, like STIs for example, it can be difficult opening up about your health due to the unfair stigma behind STIs. Support groups provide a safe space to speak about your condition and can provide the strength to help you fight against those stigmas. While the hardest step can be reaching out, you’ll often find yourself wondering how you ever managed without your trusted support group.

Forming More Connections

Another way to find positivity can be through utilizing strategies provided by professionals. Whether you have a close bond with a nurse or two or you decide to attend therapy, asking them for some helpful strategies can take some of the burdens off your shoulders. For example, when faced with a terminal condition (and chronic as well), Bradley University suggests, “While finding hope in the face of terminal illness is often a challenge, nurses are able to achieve this goal by helping patients devise ways to make the most out of their final days, whether that’s spending as much time as possible with family and friends, focusing on personal interests and hobbies or anything else.”

Keep in mind that nurses are trained to help you through this — mentally, physically, and emotionally. Reaching out to them or another medical professional can provide you with more support and encouragement. Furthermore, it’s always helpful to have someone’s opinion you respect and value to help plan out your goals and help you live in the moment more. Finding support, and in turn, positivity can come from a number of unexpected places.

Becoming Your Own Ally

At the end of the day, one of the most important things to recognize is that you shouldn’t ever feel pressured to maintain a positive attitude. Feel what you feel, whether it’s happy, sad, or angry. According to Medical News Today, “in order to achieve a stronger sense of fulfillment and well-being, you should learn to treat yourself with kindness … if we embrace our negative emotions, we are less at risk of perpetuating them and more likely to achieve self-healing.”

When dealing with chronic or terminal conditions, give yourself the power to feel what you need to feel. Staying present and living in the moment doesn’t always mean the moment will be good. However, knowing that it’s okay to have bad days as well as good ones can help ease those anxious feelings and allow you to enjoy those good days even more.

You are not defined by your illness, and you certainly are not alone. Staying positive when faced with some pretty tough conditions will always be an ongoing battle. Grounding yourself within your world — your family, your friendships, your hobbies, and your celebrity crush — can solidify each day as something special and something worth enjoying.

Tips For Parenting Your Teen In a Positive Way

parenting

Parenting is not an easy task for many people, but it is much harder if your kid is facing difficulties in his way to adult life. What can you do then and how to parent a teenager in a positive way? Moreover, how can you develop a friendly relationship with your teen? Today we will try to answer all these questions, thus here are my tips on how to cope with this:

1. Be Friends

Amidst the easiest teens tips on getting along with your children are staying friends with your offsprings. Children do really need to realize that their parents understand and appreciate them and treat them as solid individuals. Having a friendly relationship with your baby is a starting point for any family, thus your duty is to teach your children how to trust you from his early age and maintain this sense during the entire life.

2. Take Part in Your Kid’s Life

Today many parents are too busy with their careers, duties, and material things of adult life, completely forgotten about their children. Most of them realize a problem too late, that is why it is essential to prevent it at an early stage. How to do this? You can start with making regular things together; such as spending few evenings a week together, getting university coursework help done together or regular eating meal, or spending at least one of the weekends doing what you both like. There are numerous ways of how to become a part of your kid’s life, thus do not blink these opportunities until it is too late.

3. Respect your child

Children tend to think of themselves as independent and mature while they are growing up, thus try not to harm them by denying this. I am speaking of refusing the fact that they need more freedom as they become older, but you should always be aware of where your teen is going, who are his friends and their parents, this will help you to trust your kid even more and be secure he is safe and sound. Another bad thing you should avoid is arguing with an exalted voice, this will only lead to nervous breakdowns for both of you, thus think positive and do not tie yourself up on knots.

4. Teach Your Teen and Share Your Own Experiencechildren

We learn something new every day even when we are adults, thus for children it is an integral part of their lives. Some parents say that their kids should live their own lives and make their own mistakes and only this way they can become solid individuals in future, but do you agree with this statement? Of course, we cannot impose our own sense of life to our kids, but we can advise them by telling how to avoid small mistakes or pitfalls our life is full of. Frankly speaking, positive thoughts and good vibes are what your relationship should consist of.

5. Keep in Touch with Your Children, but Do Not Annoy

People, especially teenagers, get angry easily if they are under total control 24/7. If you think that regular check-ins are your daily duty, then you are completely wrong. Of course, you must control your teen, but it should be in a friendly manner, harsh and strict parenting will make your child only pull you away. If you develop a good relationship, children will share with you everything they feel or think, thus the golden rule for every parent is to find out the balance between over control and positive mentoring.

parenting1

There are no exact behavioral patterns or positive thinking you should follow in order to become successful parents, thus you must do everything at your own risk. Of course, you can buy a thousand books on how to parent your teen in a positive way, but all children are different, thus they need special approaches. Where to find a key? You must realize that you have to listen to your kid and treat him as an individual with his own fears, believes, opinion and behavioral patterns. Only by keeping in mind all these factors, you can remain friends with your teen during your entire life.

5 Fun Ways To Spend Your Day Off

fun ways spend day off

It happens to everyone when you spend an entire week in anticipation of your day off and then when it is finally at your door, you have no idea what to do with it. We tend to get our hopes up high and then we just can’t decide what exactly to do when the day comes. So you start to wonder how to enjoy a day off and how to get the most from it.

In this article, we would like to help you figure out the best ways to have fun when you’re off. We did a list of 5 things you can do this weekend. These are:

  1. Exploring what your city can offer you;
  2. Visiting escape rooms games;
  3. Having a gadget-free day;
  4. A hobby day;
  5. Day to fix a relationship.

So, if you are intrigued what all that means we are more than glad to guide you through the awesome ways to spend your days off. Here is our personal list of top 5 things to do on your day off.

1. Have some private time with the city you live in

We encourage you to spend a day off by building or strengthening your relations with the city you live in. It even doesn’t matter if it’s the city you grew up or moved to a few years ago. It feels like home only when you allow the city to be the one. So start your day off with a nice walk, visit memorable places on the way. Remember, when was the last time you had a nice long walk for the sake of walking?

After you are done with that you might look for things city has to offer you today. Find out if there any events to be held in the town square. Maybe there is a crafts fair or a handmade market? If it’s winter time you can enjoy skating on the ice rink or, if the weather is okay, maybe there is an open air movie night. Look up on the internet what the city life has to offer you today and go for it!

2. Try escape room games

If you want to find a fun way to spend a few hours on your day off, escape games are for you. These games are great for everyone despite the age or occupation. This sort of fun activity is perfect for those who are looking for new interesting ways to spend some free time. So if you were wondering what to do on your day off you had just found an answer.

If you are having your day off work then you have all the blessings from us to try playing and beating the escape rooms. That was never easy but somehow we think you will succeed. Oh, and don’t forget to bring your friends or family as well. Escape rooms are one of the best team building games for you to try.

3. Give yourself a no device day

What if instead of questioning yourself where to go on a day off you should concentrate on how to spend it? We believe, and numerous polls confirm it, that it is truly crucial to spend less time on our phones and other devices. We need to go offline time to time and live a real life outside of the internet.

Sometimes we get more tired from checking all the social media than from working 2 or 3 hours. Internet addiction leads to no good anyway. If there is anything truly urgent you will find out, the rest may wait until tomorrow. But the peace and comfort you get after overcoming tech addiction are irreplaceable. You will have to find out new ways to “kill time” and to spend more quality time with your own thoughts.

4. Dedicate one day to your hobbies

There are so many things to do when off work but the best of all would be switching your mind off from work. Quite often, even when we are off work, we still keep returning to it in our thoughts. Did I send that file? Should I do that and this on Monday? That’s getting annoying after a while. So the best way to get rid of those thoughts is to get busy with things you enjoy doing. Your hobbies! It is that simple.

Do you like painting? Get your favorite pencils or paints and draw as long as you have energy and inspiration. Do you like cooking? Make a dinner for your close ones! You can try that recipe you found years ago but never tried. Or find a quiet place at your home and just write a journal entry, if that’s what you feel like doing. Pick a book from your home library and spend an entire day reading. It is truly up to you and your hobby.

5. Dedicate time to your loved ones

Our last tip on how to enjoy your day off might seem obvious but trust us, it is the most important among all of the ways. It happens so often that we start taking our close ones for granted. With our busy lives, we start to forget how nice it can be – to spend some free time only with the people we love. This day you might not go for anything big. Just dedicate your time to absolutely silly things like watching old cartoons or maybe DIY-stuff. You will feel that spending free time doing basically “nothing” together can be extremely fun! Your close friends or your family deserve to have some good quality time with you. So let them!

SIGNS

By Victoria J.Brown

There are signs daily telling us we are going to the right (or wrong) direction. They are all around us and it’s our job to look out for them. If you are a spiritual individual, you’ll understand when I say your angels are constantly communicating with you. If you’d like to know more about angels and connecting with them, I recommend renowned best-selling author Doreen Virtue. If you’ve not heard of her, her books are a must-read.

But even if you’re not spiritual and you’re thinking the talk of Angels is a step too far, have a think about one word … coincidences.

Things happen in life that we call coincidences, but if you put the pieces together around these coincidences and work out the puzzle you’ll be amazed at what you’ll find.

In the words of Albert Einstein:

signs

This brings me on to numbers – if you haven’t heard of numerology you can read more on an excellent website Numerologist

In a nutshell, numerology is related to your name and your life path. This is a really interesting way to look at your personality, your character and understand whether you are on the right life path or not.

Numbers are also sent to us by our angels, again, Doreen Virtue describes the meaning of numbers in her book, ‘Healing with Angels’

And in her own words …

signs

Sometimes we don’t want to look for signs because we’re scared, we’re worried about the change in our lives, the upheaval … but if you’re unhappy anyway and you’re unconsciously calling out for help, (or you may already be aware that your angels are helping you and you are consciously asking for their help, but you still feel apprehensive), if you remember the angels have your back. They are sending you signs to help you move forward. They want you to be powerful, strong and awesome and they will help you achieve these goals. Believe and look for the signs.

RELAX

I remember I was well into the New Year, Christmas felt like a long distance memory and I noticed that the last thing on many people’s minds is relaxation. I understand that maybe Holidays period is very busy, so there’s not much relaxing going on. Then the new year has started and most people are back to rushing from one place to another, appointments, meetings, deadlines … I’m definitely one for advising that you set yourself goals and targets, but I believe in relaxing too. Relaxing helps us focus, truly focus on where we are and what we need to do. It helps to eliminate that fuzzy fog that surrounds many minds as they sleepwalk through life day in, day out.

Taking time out to assess and soothe your body and soul is the key to moving forward.

How many times have you heard people saying: “I haven’t got time …” These are the people who need to relax more than most.

RELAX - PICTURE 2

So if you’re one of those people who feels the need to keep moving, there’s no time for chilling … ask yourself how fast are you actually moving forward? If you feel you simply CAN’T STOP! Even the thought stresses you out. Then you are probably that person that needs to relax.

Here’s a little task for you … start writing a journal, look back over it week by week and see how fast you’re moving. While writing your journal put some feelings, thoughts, and emotions into your writing, turn your writing into a relaxation technique. It’s an amazing method. If you do this, you’re still ‘working’ as you’re writing down your achievements, but at the same time, you are actually allowing yourself to put things into perspective.

So remember, when you are relaxing, you are not being lazy, you are not wasting time … the exact opposite … you are re-fuelling your mind, body, and soul.

QUEST

By Victoria J.Brown

The New Year has started and New Year Resolutions have been made around the world. Some are doing well … others, lasted a day or so

Did you make New Year Resolutions?

If you did, ask yourself how many of them are related to an underlying passion or incompleteness that isn’t being fulfilled?

If you were to believe that you were sent here on a life mission or a quest that needed to be completed how would you feel about your life journey so far?

Are you happy on your journey? Do you want to achieve more? Is there a niggle deep within that knows you have more to offer: more to give the world? Most people answer, ‘Yes,’ to this question because most people are on the treadmill of life.

But imagine this:

PICTURE QUEST 1

Imagine knowing that your first quest on this physical plane was to feel the love from within. When we are born this is exactly what we feel, love for ourselves and those around us. It’s as we grow and develop that society shapes our thoughts. That’s why many people are unhappy with life because they have forgotten the reason they are here, many are still searching for it while others’ have given up. Don’t give up. Don’t be that person who loses themselves. You have the power to change your thoughts.

Do you feel an urge, a passion – something deep within that you know you need to fulfill? This is your quest. Your life mission. The reason you are here. If it’s not something you can do overnight, then put a plan in place and start making it work for you. Life is far too short to be having regrets make 2017 your year. Start the quest that you were sent here for. I get excited as I write this, as I know there are so many people out there who are connecting with this blog post and know that feeling. Once that feeling is ignited, excitement bursts from within.

One of your main quests in life is to show love always. Once you can show love your life will be transformed. Truly love, forgive and diminish negative thoughts. Giving love will enable you to receive more love and you will find that your life quests are so much easier to follow. Opening yourself up to the universe and letting go of any negative beliefs will enable your quest to be achieved much easier.

PASSION

Much unhappiness comes from people not following their passion. Many people are on the treadmill of life; following a routine, having a job just to pay the bills, raising a family and generally getting on with life because they have to.

We all have bills to pay and maybe you’re not in a position to just drop everything and start following your dreams. But incorporating your passions into your daily life will make life much easier and a nicer place to be.

passion

This could be spending an hour or even 30 minutes on something you love every day. If you continue to do this and ensure your passion is embedded into your daily routine before you know where you are you may just be able to give up that day job. My biggest belief is that small steps count. Small steps are better than taking no steps at all.

passion

We’re all here for a reason, if you have a passion deep inside that isn’t being fulfilled, then you know your purpose for being. Follow your heart and your dreams will come true. Start putting plans in place to make this happen. It’s a New Year, so make this year count for you. Get off the treadmill and start doing some real walking and you’ll be amazed at what you see and find.

passion

Just remember time is passing anyway, so make sure you fit your passion into your day. Don’t regret not moving forward, don’t let other ‘stuff’ get in the way, you deserve to be happy and if you have a yearning to do something with your life, follow that yearning because that is your passion calling out to you. That is the reason you are here.
