Applied Positive Psychology 5 Ways Positive Affirmations Manifest In Life

Positive Thoughts

Key Ways that Positive Affirmations Change Lives for the Better – Applied Positive Psychology

The way in which you think about yourself greatly influences how you live your own life. If you have constantly put yourself down, you negatively impact your own self-esteem and the way that you engage with others.

Alternatively, when you adopt positive thinking about who you are as a person, you pave the way for a new future and a new way of interacting with others. When you are serious about improving the way you live, act, and believe, you should learn the five key ways that positive affirmations can manifest themselves in your everyday life.

Applied Positive Psychology

Here are the 5 ways positive affirmations manifest in life – applied positive psychology:

1. Confidence

Positive affirmations help give you new confidence about yourself and your life. When you believe that you are a good person and worthy of respect and love, you feel more confident about not only yourself but also about the impact that you make every day.

You may be more upbeat when speaking to others and exhibit more genuine emotions toward friends, family members, and even strangers. You also may seek out interactions instead of hiding from them entirely. This newfound confidence may even allow you to make new friends or perhaps establish more meaningful and productive romantic relationships.

2. Better Decision Making

When you positively affirm what you believe about yourself and your everyday life, you will begin making better decisions. When you thought negatively, you may have had little regard for your own happiness and well-being.

However, when you welcome and accept positive affirmations, you may take the time to think things through and make choices that are in your own best interests. You may see the wisdom in advocating for yourself and what is best for your future. You also may do so without second guessing yourself or feeling guilty about putting yourself first for once.

3. New Friendships

Positive affirmations also manifest themselves in the forging of new friendships. When you think of yourself in a positive light, you realize that you are worthy of friends who have the highest level of affection and respect for you. You want to be around people who will treat you well and reaffirm the belief that you are a good and worthy person.

Forging new friendships can be vital to changing the manner in which you live your life. By getting rid of bad influences, you pave the way for making your own future better and avoiding thought processes that contributed to self-loathing and negative behavior in the past. Your new friends will become more valuable and positive assets to you and your life going forward.

4. Re-evaluation of Family Ties

The old adage says that you can pick your friends but not your family. In reality, you do have some power over to what degree you associate with family members who may be a bad influence on you.

If you have relatives that put you down or take advantage of you, it is not out of the question to reevaluate how much time you want to spend with them. The positive affirmations that you adopt for your life give you the power and the confidence to rethink those relationships and adjust them accordingly.

5. Mentoring Opportunities

Finally, positive affirmations can manifest themselves in your life by giving you the opportunity to become a mentor to someone else. Overcoming your own self-loathing, doubt, and negativity gives you the experience you need to understand where others in your former position are coming from and in what direction they need to go to change their own lives.

As with many people in your situation who have forged new paths for the future, you have valuable insight that even the most skilled and highly trained therapist or counselor does not possess. Who better to mentor someone down on his or her luck than you?

Seeing the positive impact you make on someone’s life likewise can be a manifestation of positive affirmations in your own. As you rebuild your own future, you should welcome the chance to pay forward what you have learned about why positive affirmations are vital to your everyday life.

Your point of view plays a key role in the way you act, believe, and live. Develop a routine that incorporates positive affirmations and you will begin to see these five benefits manifest themselves in your life.

Aspirational-Coasters

“Aspiration: The progressive realization of a worthy ideal.” ~ quote from Aspirational Coasters

”For the man who has, will be given more… but the man who has nothing will have taken away from  him what little he has.” – Matt. 13:12

Hang on, that’s not fair. I thought God was supposed to be fair and just. Not very loving if you ask me…

Mmm, now that I’ve calmed down a little maybe there’s  more to this than meets the eye.  My Dad used to say “Nothing is as it seems.”

Over the years I’ve read so much around the simple act of thinking, 60,000 thoughts a day I’m told.

One of my gurus, Dr. Deepak Chopra, teaches that a thought is an impulse of energy and information. 60,000 thoughts must generate quite a bit of energy each day! And what of the “information” that’s attached to the energy, what’s that all about? Someone told me I was the same as a tree, just different information.

OK, I’ll cut to the chase.

I’ve nestled into the belief that says there’s a strong link (infallible?) between my thinking and the circumstances of my life. I’m very content with my life so far. And I see every day that whatever I’ve been thinking about actually appears in my life. Ever so quietly. Subtle, easy to miss at first.

My life-manta as I call it, has appeared in physical form. My mantra’s no secret. It’s “I’m Happy, Healthy, Wise, and Wealthy.” I think about that every day with a heart posture of gratitude.

Coming back to my opening Biblical quote. What do “poor” people think about all day? What dominates their thoughts? I wonder, would it be thoughts of abundance and gratitude. And what do the “wealthy” think about all the time?

These days they say “the gap (between rich and poor) is  widening”. Same principle I suggest. What you think about you get more of. Think abundance, you get more of it. Think lack and poverty, you get more of that.

“.. but the man who has nothing will have taken away from him who little he has.” The rich get richer, the poor get poorer because of the way they are habitually thinking. All that energy and information going the wrong way. “Wrong” meaning lack and deprivation.

My life mantra has been a delight. It’s taken patience and tenacity at times but it works. I am happy, healthy, wise and wealthy. Yes, please. Thank you.

15 Powerful Hacks to Overcome Procrastination

15 Powerful Hacks to Overcome Procrastination

Procrastination wastes our precious time and steals our productivity. It’s something all of us are guilty of sometimes. According to psychologists, twenty percent of people can identify themselves as procrastinators. We all have tendencies to procrastinate to some degree, some are just worse than others. For instance, chronic procrastinators can’t seem to control it that they actively look for distractions and sabotage themselves. But how do we overcome procrastination?

Other procrastinators such as the thrill-seekers put off work because they seek the adrenaline rush of beating the deadline. The Avoiders procrastinate because of fear of failure and the decisional procrastinators can’t seem to make a final decision or do not make any decisions at all to absolve themselves of the responsibilities of the consequences.

Procrastinators do not realize the cost of this to their health, work, and social lives. If you are suffering from procrastination, here are some powerful hacks to overcome it.

Hacks to Overcome Procrastination

1. Determine the source or the reason why you are procrastinating

The key to finding a solution to a problem is to identify the root cause of the problem so they can be addressed properly. Usually, there is something more than what you see on the surface. The underlying reason why people procrastinate is deeper and more complicated than just being plain lazy or irresponsible.

2. Lacking in abilities or skills deficit

Some people procrastinate simply because they do not know how to perform what is asked of them or lack the necessary skills to complete tasks. Others postpone doing tasks because they can’t admit to themselves they need help and having troubles asking for it for the fear of judgment. One example is in writing an academic paper. Most students procrastinate because they couldn’t put their thoughts into a paper. They tend to put it off instead of looking for ways they can accomplish their requirements. If you are one of them, end your suffering and seek help online.

3. Lack of interest and motivation

It is natural for people to postpone doing any task if it does not appeal to their interest. The best solution for this is to just remember why the task needs to be done anyway and the possible effects if you fail to do it. Other times the task still interests you but you just lack the motivation to even begin. It may be triggered by other factors in life that you have to address first or emotions you have to deal with.

4. Feeling overwhelmed

When you feel too overwhelmed by your current situation in life, it is quite normal to procrastinate. Switching from one task to another is difficult.

5. Fear of failure and fear of success

Fear of failure can paralyze people. They fear that they might do something poorly or not being able to do it at all that they cannot even begin. On the other hand, those who fear success procrastinate because they think more will be expected out of them if they succeeded to perform well.

6. Act of Rebellion

Rebels deliberately procrastinate without really understanding why they do it sometimes. It’s an unconscious reaction against people of power. A teenager at home may delay doing his/her chores just because his/her parents asked him/her to do them immediately.

These are just some examples of reasons why people procrastinate.

7. Refine your to-do list and rank your priorities accordingly.

At times, we tend to feel pressured just by merely looking at our to-do list, especially when we don’t feel enthusiastic about certain tasks. The more things listed down, the more people tend to procrastinate. One solution that could work is to be realistic about the things that you can and can’t do and keep your list short. Rank your tasks according to the level of priority so you’d know which one requires immediate action.

8. Breakdown big tasks into chunks

Refer to your list and breakdown big tasks into smaller tasks so you can accomplish them without overwhelming yourself too much that you put off other equally important tasks off.

9. Try to finish all the easy tasks first

When we think of a task as easy, we tend to postpone doing it that we sometimes end up not being able to do it at all. If you tell yourself “It’s fine. It’s easy, I’ll do it later” a lot of times, you are already procrastinating.

When you finish the easy tasks first, you can cross them out of your list and prepare for bigger ones. It can save you time, effort and in some cases, money.

10. Use productivity apps

It is amazing how we can utilize technology to our advantage. If you need a little nudge to keep yourself going, download apps that can help make everything a little easier. There are apps that can remind you of your task and there are some that can help keep your focus and away from distractions.

11. Take meaningful rests

Meaningful rest means not staying in work mode. Some people take breaks only to do other smaller tasks. Sometimes people procrastinate because they do not get enough rest. Their mind gets too tired that it wanders.

12. Reward yourself for your accomplishments

Sometimes all you need is a positive reinforcement. Reward yourself for every accomplishment and you will feel good and enthusiastic to accomplish more tasks.

13. Take proper care of yourself

When you neglect to take care of yourself, you will put off work because you either feel too tired or sick. You are tired because you didn’t get enough sleep or you feel sluggish because of the kind of food you eat, and then you get sick. Eat well, get enough sleep, exercise and you will feel better and productive.

14. Meditate

Meditation can help you deal with stress by clearing your mind so you can regain your focus. Even great and successful people procrastinate, and use meditation to get them back to the game.

15. Mind over matter

Whatever your reason may be for putting off work or delaying tasks, you have to have a mantra that can immediately snap you out of your procrastination. Remind yourself that if you fail to do what you have to do, you will not be able to achieve your goals.

You are not born with chronic procrastination, it is something you have created you. The good news is that you can change your behavior. You can avoid unnecessary distraction and focus on what really matters.

12 Powerful Universal Laws That Guide Your Life

powerful-universal-laws

There are 12 powerful words that represent powerful universal laws, that guide your life and is better to know what they stand for, to know the energy that they master.

1. Cause and Effect

“As your saw, so shall you reap”

Whatever we put out in the Universe will come back to us. What you saw is what you will reap. What we put out into the world in both thought and action, always has consequences… both good and bad.

2. Creation

“What we desire comes through participation.”

Life does not happen by itself, we need to make it happen. What we focus on is what we create. The authenticity of our lives will be determined to be the extent that our intentions match our actions… matching our insides with our outsides.

3. Humility

“Refusal to accept what is will still be what is.”

In life you need to show humility, meaning one must accept something in order to change it. Accept what is, let go of what was, and make changes towards what will be. By knowing and accepting what we can’t change, we are given the wisdom and courage to change what we can.

4. Growth

“Our own growth is above any circumstance”.

When we change ourselves our lives follow suit and change too. Our growth can happen under any circumstance. Whether or not, the actions we choose match our motives, will determine the negative or positive quality of our lives.

5. Responsibility

“Our lives are of our own doing, nothing else.”

We must take responsibility for what is in our lives. Our lives are of our own doing, nothing else. If the circumstances in one’s own life are chaotic, it reflects internal chaos. Changing our way of thinking will be reflected in the relative peace of our existence, regardless of others.

6. Connection

“Everything in the Universe is connected, both large and small.”

The past, present and future are all connected. All that we have experienced in our lives is connected… this is our story. Willingness to change these connections will enable our story to evolve.

7. Focus

We cannot think of two different things at the same time. Once cannot direct attention beyond a single task.

8. Giving and Hospitality

Our behavior should match our thoughts and actions. Demonstrating selflessness shows our true intentions.

9. Here and Now

One cannot be present if they are looking backward.

10. Change

History repeats itself until we learn from it and change our path. History repeats itself unless changed.

11. Patience and Reward

The most valuable rewards require persistence. A patience mindset will reap the highest reward.

12. Significance and Inspiration

Rewards are a direct result of the energy and effort we put into it. The best reward is one that makes an impact.

7 Fun and Inspiring Acrostics

fun

Today a friend that follows Positive Words Research sent us a link with abbreviations for text messages. We scanned the list and found some creative writings really amazing, some are so inspiring and some are actually very funny. These are called acrostics. An acrostic is a poem (or other forms of writing) in which the first letter (or syllable, or word) of each line (or paragraph, or other recurring feature in the text) spells out a word or a message. We shared below the ones that we like most.

Acrostic for PAINS:

Positive
Approach
In
Negative
Situation

Acrostic for SORRY:

Some
One is
Really
Remembering
You

Acrostic for BLESSING:

Begin your day with
Love in your heart
Expect blessings
Share goodness
Shine like the sun
Inspire someone
Never forgot that
God is with you all time

Acrostic for MATHS:

Mental
Attack
To
Healthy
Students

Source: Abbreviation SMS on Desi Comments.

But the most inspiring, beautiful and also famous acrostic poems are the below three acrostics.

The classic example of the acrostic poem written in English by Edgar Allan Poe, entitled simply “An Acrostic” for the name ELIZABETH:

Elizabeth it is in vain you say
Love not”—thou sayest it in so sweet a way:
In vain those words from thee or L.E.L.
Zantippe’s talents had enforced so well:
Ah! if that language from thy heart arise,
Breath it less gently forth—and veil thine eyes.
Endymion, recollect, when Luna tried
To cure his love—was cured of all beside—
His follie—pride—and passion—for he died.

In Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass, the final chapter “A Boat, Beneath A Sunny Sky” is an acrostic of the real Alice’s name: ALICE PLEASANCE LIDDELL:

A boat, beneath a sunny sky
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July –

Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear –

Long has paled that sunny sky:
Echoes fade and memories die:
Autumn frosts have slain July.

Still she haunts me, phantomwise,
Alice moving under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:

Ever drifting down the stream –
Lingering in the golden gleam –
Life, what is it but a dream?

Contained in A Calendar Acrostic is an example that uses the first three letters of each line, not just the first, for abbreviations for the months of the year:

JANet was quite ill one day.
FEBrile trouble came her way.
MARtyr-like, she lay in bed;
APRoned nurses softly sped.
MAYbe, said the leech judicial
JUNket would be beneficial.
JULeps, too, though freely tried,
AUGured ill, for Janet died.
SEPulchre was sadly made.
OCTaves pealed and prayers were said.
NOVices with ma’y a tear
DECorated Janet’s bier.

Love is Action Movement ~ The Word Rocks Project

#wordrocks project

I truly believe in the power of love and kindness. This power is the reason for which every day, in the past five years, I’ve been painting #wordrocks and scattering them everywhere for people to find.

Almost five years ago, my son Antonio created Word Rocks Project. He was only ten years old at that time and willing to leave some joy around to make people smile. We never expected the idea to grow that much. But it did. We are all over the world now. And we keep trying to make people happy through our message rocks.

Word Rocks Project
Picture from the Word Rocks Project

I always have them with me. No matter if it’s walking my dogs, Sgt. Pepper and Hey Jude, or doing groceries,if it’s mailing a letter or having a coffee with a friend. Sometimes I pass by a playground and will pull over the car to leave a wordrock. I will always find a nice spot to surprise someone.

Many people have found amazing comfort and encouragement at the exact right time in running into one of these rocks and being able to keep them as their own.

Knowing that random acts of kindness can bring so much for people, I was encouraged to expand my ideas. Love notes, golden tiny fairies, sparkle unicorns, autumn leaves, messages in recycled med bottles. So many ideas! Energy flows where attention goes. I turned my heart to leave these love messages and love keeps flowing.

Not a long time ago, I created another project: Love it, Forward List. In few words: every time I get to know someone who is going through a hard time I send a mail to my #loveitforwardlist volunteers explaining what is going on with this person. So they start to “lovebomb”  the person, with letters, cards and a lot of other amazing love things. Right now I have 2.000 volunteers writing the letters with me.

In this world that is so digital, the power of a handwriting letter is amazing. So, can you imagine when someone receives a couple of letters full of encouragement? The feeling just lifts them up, brings them pure healing joy.

Every day I learn with this project. The world is full – very full – of people in need of love. Or affection. In need of attention and comfort. And this has been a great and deep lesson in my life. It’s wonderful how the rocks have connected me with people around the world I would never have known otherwise.

Word Rocks Project

It fills my heart daily that with a simple act of kindness I am bringing positive feelings to people. I truly believe that when you open your heart to a greater love, everything makes sense, and life becomes more beautiful As I always like to say: love shared is love multiplied.

Amazing invention Yu Characters done by George Yu

Yu Characters

About the Yu Characters

My name is Zhuowei Yu (or simply George Yu). I am the designer of the Yu Characters. I would be comfortable to be referred as a businessman turned amateur artist. Certainly it is always precisely correct to call me the designer of the Yu Characters.

Born and grew up in Beijing, China in 1957, I was fond of painting when I was about five years old. My painting hobby had gradually evolved to calligraphy upon entering middle school. During the Cultural Revolution, studying and practicing ancient Chinese calligraphy was almost taboo so I had a tough time accessing any of them. Fortunately, the Forbidden City (imperial palace for the Chinese emperors built 700 years ago) was reopened to the public after a few years’ shut down by the government. I had a good chance to see tremendous amount of royal treasures. What impressed me the most was tons of calligraphy artwork everywhere. I became so addicted to them that I spent the money my mom gave me for candies to visit the palace again and again to satisfy my desire for curiosity.

I quickly fell in love with calligraphy at around fourteen. As the normal practice, I aimed to obtain the writing characteristics of exemplary pieces of writing, mainly Yan Zhenqing, the most renowned ancient Chinese calligrapher. During the course of learning and practicing it, I would often imagine working out a calligraphy artwork and present it to the Chinese empress “Dowager Cixi” just like some of her cabinet ministers did (I saw those in the Forbidden City.) It would be such a fulfilling feeling.

While I kept on my passion on calligraphy, I additionally developed an intense interest in Russian taught at middle school as foreign language and was soon ranked the top student in Russian study among more than a thousand students. I also enjoyed very much writing the cursive Russian letters using the ink dipping pen. My Russian teacher reserved my homework of Russian writing as a role model for all students to follow.

A fuzzy concept flashed across my mind: wouldn’t it be wonderful if the Chinese calligraphic art be somehow combined with Russian and how would it look like? I would quickly shut myself down on this crazy thinking because at that time anything beyond following Mao Zedong’s thought (Chinese Marxism) was totally unacceptable and also punishable. My thinking was way too far beyond it. However, if you were wired by God to do something in your lifetime, sooner or later it would pop up even after decades, which proved to be true on myself.

In 1972, an unprecedented English learning program was launched over the radio. I got so excited at it as this was the only way I could learn English in the most professional way. After several months’ following up, I fell in love with English and attentively followed it up for quite a few years all the way through my enrollment to  the Beijing University of International Studies in 1978.

My four years English study in the university had enabled me to perform international trade starting from 1982. Dozens of years of communing with countries of multiple cultures had led my teenager’s fuzzy concept to resurface time and again: To apply the Chinese characters to western cultures in a certain way. The Chinese calligraphy had been revered as the best form of Chinese art due to its unique feature of being capable, mysterious, careful, carefree, balanced, unrestrained, mature, virile, graceful, sober, well-knit, prolix, rich, exuberant, and classic. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if these unique features could also be reflected in calligraphy of western languages?

The harder it was, the more challenging and appealing it would become. Extremely ridiculous and impossible as it might appear, this hazy crazy idea kept popping up from time to time. There always seemed to be a hidden giant standing far away in the fog waving at me. Or I seemed to be following my instinct. In 2004, I went to the Beijing Bookstore and bought a big dictionary weighing about four kilos consisting of all scripts styles of all Chinese characters.  Why did I buy it? No clear answers! Probably instinct or sixth sense. I would often grab it from my bookshelf and search for characters written by different calligraphers in variant script styles that may best match something somewhere sometimes in the West.

As the burning desire kept growing, I decided in 2008 that I may have to sacrifice the trading business in order to have more time on this exciting adventure.

It was of course easier said than done. Unlike a Chinese marrying a European, which would naturally give birth to a child resembling their parents by half, when you put a Chinese character of intricate strokes and complicated structures beside a Roman letter, none of them would give a damn what they are meant to be related to one another. On the contrary, you might be much more comfortable to see them separated as far apart as possible. Even today, you can still easily search online and see some rusty, harsh and primitive designs in trying to combine Chinese way of writing with that of the Roman alphabet.

As the Chinese saying goes, a journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step. The Roman alphabet starts with A, so it was my first course of dish. This was a dish with Greek cheese on the left side and the Chinese bean curd on the other. You had to work wonders by delicately mixing them so that either fans would like it more than the original.  Searching through thousands of Chinese characters, I picked up the Chinese character“爱”(pronounced like A) to be the ideal match with A by inserting it into A , sharing one stroke and filling its vacant areas evenly and aesthetically. More importantly, “爱”has an overwhelmingly positive meaning for love! In other words, the Yu Character A is beautiful from inside out!

Yu Characters

You would need to “test write” the newly created character hundreds if not thousands of times to see if the sequence of the strokes would practically make sense, if the connections between each stroke were smooth, if the layout of the strokes was evenly balanced, if the whole structure of the character could stand on its own and looked nice just like a regular Chinese character. The test writing was done by traditional brush in the most popular official script style. After the protocol was finalized, I used the “shape” function of Microsoft word 2013 to record it and be saved in the computer for the convenience of future online promotion.

Well begun is half done. By following the same rules, I started to crack the nuts one by one for the rest of 25 Roman letters.  Believe it or not, it took approximately 6 months to create the 26 Yu Characters plus a few additional months for further correction and perfection.

While it would have been impossible to present my calligraphy artwork to the Chinese empress Dowager Cixi (who would now be 155 years), it was feasible to submit it to Queen Elizabeth II. So I sent Her Majesty a birthday celebration in the Yu Characters in the spring of 2014. Amazingly enough, I got her thank you reply letter. See the link:

You may now visit www.yucharacters.com to see exactly how they look.

The creation of the Yu Characters had caught the eyes of ICN TV station who invited me for interview (in Chinese). See the following links.

I had also shown my artwork in a couple of local art exhibitions. One of them had named me artist of the day. See the following link:

The success in the creation of the Yu Characters did not stop me from moving on. I really did not want to ignore my buddy, the Russian. Starting from early 2015, I began cracking the Russian nuts. Surprisingly fast, I finished it up in a matter of a couple of months! See the following link:

Appreciate and Encourage – Positivity Begins Here

Appreciate and Encourage - Positivity Begins Here

Have you ever thought why do you feel low about yourself? Why have you failed? Why haven’t you thought to be positive? Start to appreciate and encourage because positivity starts here. Answers are here and they are quite simple.

The main reason behind this is that there is nobody to appreciate and encourage you. Appreciation and Encouragement are two big motivators that you desperately need. If there was someone to appreciate and encourage you in the first place, you wouldn’t have been feeling pessimistic about yourself.

Now that you have had a retrospection about yourself and your thoughts, try to empathize for other people who are struggling and working hard for their goals. Follow these golden rules to move forward with your life.

  1. Empathize – Just try to see yourself in other people’s shoes. You know how you feel when someone discourages you. To empathize on someone is the first step to motivate someone.
  2. Appreciate – When you see people doing some great work and striving hard for their goals, appreciate. It might sound to be a simple word but its outcomes are phenomenal. When you appreciate people, they feel more confident and happy about their work and about themselves. They will be more assured that someone is complimenting them with a positive word.
  3. Encourage – Give a positive pat on people’s shoulders when you see good work. Tell them that you must do this work consistently with full interest. When you encourage them more, they will have the heart to do their work with optimism.
  4. Help – When you see people struggling, lend them your hand and offer a help. Genuine people will remember you always for your help. When you are in need, these people will help you in return. But never expect anything in return while helping people.

These positive words have enormous power in them. Use them in your daily life and see the effects in the people surrounding you.
